How many of you have been struggling with some skin related issue that you just can’t seem to get rid of? Have you tried every product you’ve been able to find on the drug store shelf without any luck? Unfortunately, many chemically formulated skin care products are not very effective or results are not lasting. If you have acne, you probably understand exactly what we mean. Aside from the time and energy being wasted trying all these different products with the hope that something will eventually work, you’re also probably investing a ton of money into trying to treat your skin.
If you’re feeling at your wit’s end and about to give up, don’t. Natural herbal skin care products might be the solution you’ve been looking for. Natural products are gentler on the skin, significantly reducing the risks of irritation or negative reaction. More than 60% of anything you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream. Choosing natural products helps keep harmful chemicals from entering your blood. Most importantly, natural remedies for your skincare issues can be extremely effective with long lasting results.
Organic Clay
Clay has been used as part of a skincare regimen since ancient times. There are a few different types of clay used to help skin. Clay has the natural ability to absorb oils and clear pores, soothe irritation, detox skin, and exfoliate. Bentonite clay is great for helping to absorb oils and clear pores. If you have acne or oily skin, this is a great option for you. French green clay helps tighten pores, reduce inflammation, and even skin tone. It’s pretty easy to make your own clay masks at home or you can purchase natural masks if you’re not in the mood for DIY activities. For the best results, keep in mind that clay is only active when wet. Make sure your skin and the clay stay moist throughout use. Here’s a little additional pro tip for you guys- spritz your clay mask with a hydrating skin toner once it’s applied to your skin and keep spritzing throughout to ensure the mask stays active and your skin gets the most out of it.
Charcoal
Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt, and micro-particles to the surface of your skin which helps give you a clear, clean complexion and also helps fight acne at the source. Charcoal is a very popular ingredient in facial masks, as it is proven to absorb thousands of times its mass in harmful substances. You can make your own simple charcoal mask by mixing 0.2 grams of powdered activated charcoal with ½ teaspoon of bentonite clay and 1 ½ teaspoons of water. You can apply this mask anywhere on your skin and leave for 10 minutes. Wipe away with a dampened cloth and your skin is now clean and clear. Charcoal is antibacterial and antifungal, deeply cleansing for your pores, and exfoliating. If you’re looking for glowing, clear skin, activated charcoal is a natural solution that absolutely needs to be included in your skincare regimen.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a miracle natural ingredient that is great for your body, both inside and out. What’s so great about it is how versatile it is, making it easy to incorporate into just about anything. Coconut oil has the ability to strengthen epidermal tissue, remove dead skin cells, protect from sunburn, and more! It’s very gentle on the skin, so if you’re used to reacting to most chemically formulated over the counter products, coconut oil is something your sensitive skin will love. It also has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. Coconut oil can help cleanse and moisturize your skin and hair, and can even skin tone, minimizing the appearance of scars and dark spots. It’s also a really effective, gentle makeup remover.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil has been used for hundreds of years to help fight breakouts redness, and skin inflammation. If you’re suffering from acne and looking for relief, this is a great natural option to try. Most acne treatments contain acids which irritate the skin and leave you feeling dry, raw, and with noticeable redness. Tea tree oil is way gentler when blended with a carrier oil (natural essential oils can be very harsh when used raw). With its antibacterial and antifungal properties, it will help remove impurities from the skin, draw away dirt and acne causing bacteria, leaving your skin refreshed and with regular use, you’ll have a clearer appearance.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is known for being calming and soothing to the skin, which is why it is a major ingredient in most lotions. You may be familiar with aloe vera being the miracle worker for every sunburn you’ve ever had. It contains bacteria fighting ingredients that also work to reduce redness, inflammation, and even itching. This should definitely be something you keep handy during the Summer months. When the mosquitoes get to biting, or when you accidentally fall asleep under the sun, you’ll have a natural soothing remedy ready!
Most commonly used skincare products are created with a number of synthetic ingredients that end up causing more harm than good. How many of you have used acne treatments that leave you dry and red? You’ve just traded your acne breakout for redness and dry, crusty skin. Was that really a good tradeoff?
When shopping for your skincare products, we suggest following one general rule of thumb. Look for unprocessed, natural ingredients without anything artificial and without harsh chemicals. If the world is long and sounds like something complicated- it probably isn’t the best thing for you. Look for ingredients you recognize and even consider making your own natural skincare products using raw ingredients. If you can’t pronounce it, or understand what it means when you look it up- you don’t need it.
